I want to open up a thread for GPS discussion.  The main thing I've been wondering is... GPS uses satellites for positioning, right?  If you have absolutely no cellular service for voice or data, is it possible to use a smartphone's GPS?

I thought blackberry had this feature through their maps but CSouth doesn't allow the use of it?

i am pretty sure you can, because some of the android apps say mapping can still be done even without a cell signal as long as you get a gps signal.

You can, but you wont have the maps... you can still get coordinates though..

I wonder if there is a map that you can put on your device that will use the gps receiver.

The new Curve 8530 has actual GPS. It pulls from the device's internal GPS when a mobile network connection/ data connection is not found. I recently tested this an it works like a charm!
