Impressions on the Hero after a week.
I started using Handcent SMS and chompSMS immediately because of what I was reading about the Sprint Hero (not because of my own experiences). Recently, I decided to try to create the problem for myself. I uninstalled Handcent SMS and started using the default SMS app. I've been using it consistently for 4 or 5 days now and I'm having no problems (not to mention it's much faster). My awake time over the past few days has been under 20%.
I noticed that in the OTA update that Sprint users just received, they went from Software Version 1.29.651.1 to 1.56.651.2. I'm not 100% sure that there is a direct correlation with our software version, but my Hero is on 1.44.557.2. Maybe this issue was addressed with Cellular South before our release. Anyone else have experiences that differ from mine? Has anyone here experienced the SMS problem first hand?
I did, however, get nasty results from Peep when I gave it a spin about a week ago.
Anyone have similar experiences? I have learned that the default SMS app has a lot less features and options, but much less lag.
I am unsure to be honest with you. I was using both Peep and the defaunt SMS application. I disable both and my battery life was greatly increased. The keyboard on the HandcentSMS is very laggy and is quite annoying, but I deal with it for battery life's sake. Ill start using the default app soon and I'll get back to you.
I am using the hero just like it came out of the box. I have pandora, weather bug, and bluetooth switch. My awake time over the past few days has been under 20% also. Battery life was so so until I ordered the 1750mah battery from seidioonline.com. You have to do a bit of maintenance to keep it running smoothly. Keep your cache, cookies, history, form data, clear. The available space on my phone stays around 141 mb. Cell south did not have the problems sprint had so you do not need to change anything with it runs very well just like it is.
I really like the phone and it has many features that I am just starting to learn to use. My biggest problem is texting on the virtual keyboard and the predictive text (i have run calibration too btw). It is terribly hard for me because it keeps putting completely off-the-wall words in my texts that I don't notice until message has been sent. Great fun for friends to get the crazy texts from me but I would like for it to work better. One text I sent to a coworker said "I am running late disneyland in a few" don't know where disneyland came from... I was trying to figure out how to remove words that I accidently entered into the dictionary because they keep coming back to terrorize me, no luck on that so far.
