HTC Hero and the Motorola Droid
One of my duties at work is managing all communications services, including wireless accounts. Recently a Verizon rep, trying to get some business from me, offered to let me take the Motorola Droid for a spin.
My first impression was that the device is very ugly (imo, of course), and I miss seeing Sense UI. After over a week with the Motorola Droid, I must say, it's a very nice device, but my first impressions still stand. The main things I like about it are the larger screen and Android 2.0 with Google Maps Nav. Also, the 3G coverage has been much better than I expected.
The screen, I can deal with. Android 2.0, I can wait. The idea of a physical keyboard is nice, but not this particular one. I'm not willing to sacrifice a sleek device, for hardware with moving parts. I'm not willing to sacrifice a much more aesthetically pleasing UI, or the plan pricing of Cellular South. And the 3G speeds (which the Verizon rep really hyped up to be much better the CS) isn't even what I would call 'noticably different'.All in all, I couldn't be happier with my Hero on Cellular South... even when compared to the '2009 Device of the Year' on 'The Network".
Thanks for the post asmith. Verizon is sure pushing the Droid hard. It's nice to know how it compares to the Hero. I've had my Hero about a month now and I love it. I had a Samsung Alias for a year and this makes it look sick.Got a question about Android 2.0. Have you heard if/when CS will upgrade everyone?
No problem. I enjoyed playing around with it.
I've heard that we will see 2.0, but no timeline is set. Again, only what I've heard.
