Android 2.* Update
Of course...if this update is not out by say...the end of this week...I am going to root my Hero and be done with it.
I have changed my mind...I am going to attempt to root it tonight....my Hero....root my Hero...yeah that is what I meant.
Yes, It would come from CS. Sprint released theirs a few weeks ago, and HTC had their part done months ago.
Did you have success rooting?
I didn't get a chance to get to it last night...I think I will go ahead and try it while I am here at the office...will make me look busy anyway...:)
It now looks as if Cellular south has pushed this update back to:
Disc Center: It will be released by July 12. There were several bugs to clear with HTC software before we could release the update.
me: Do you know any of the features that will be included?
Disc Center: MMS and enhanced web capabilities. for more info google search 1.5 vs 2.1 android update.
ohh well.
I am trying to root now.
Thanks! Just got the same responce! I guess I'd rather wait and it be correct than something get released and end up with Vista. :)
I got the same. Well at least its some kind of time-frame.
OK gurus...need some help....
I am all the way down to this in the guide...
4. Run the Sprint RUU from here - http://geekfor.me/news/sprint_ruu_156/
It will take a while to run and it will take a while to boot the first time (several minutes). Be Patient.
then I get this....
What do I do now?

release at the end of June, I was checking to see if it is. and if so where
would I download it from. Cellular
or HTC website?
Will R: We do not have it
available yet but we are expecting to get it in very soon. Let me send you the
latest update our department has gotten about it.
: ok
Will R: "The 2.1 software
upgrade is currently in our lab being tested, we hope to have it ready for our
customers very soon." I know you will be able to do the update at our
local retail locations and I am pretty sure we will have it available to do
somewhere on our website but I have not been told for sure on that yet.
: Ok , Thanks..Will just have to wait a little bit longer
I guess
Will R: Yes, it should not be
to much longer. You can log into the chat whenever you would like and we will

Well...the good news is my phone still works...not sure for how much longer tho? Surely one of you "rooters" can advise me of what to do next....kind of in limbo here...:(
CS told me it would come from HTC many months ago
Apparently my root attempt failed with installing the recovery image...or something.
According to the steps related to the Gold Card...I think that indicated that the Gold Card was ok...but I will go thru it again.
3. (Optional) Test your GoldCard - If you do this, be sure you've
done step 1 because it removes those settings. (If you want to skip
this, you'll know if your GoldCard is bad when you run the RUU and you
get a CUSTOMER ID ERROR message like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4&postcount=32)
a. Turn off your phone
b. Hold Volume Up and turn on your phone. Should get a screen with 3
skateboarding Androids at the bottom.
c. Press volume down (for HBOOT)
d. Press Back (for SIMLOCK)
e. If you get an error, your GoldCard is bad. Go back to Step 2.
f. The screen should look like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4&postcount=42
g. Press menu to reboot
h. Dial ##000000#
i. Choose Edit Mode
j. Change both numbers back to what you wrote down in Step 1.
k. Press Menu and choose Commit Modifications and reboot your phoneturn off phone, hold vol down while powering on... if you get an error, the gold card is not right
