I'd flame but I really don't see the point.  All I'm trying to do is show others that things aren't quite as nice as others might make them seem.

For the record. I never used task killers, I've tried several different browsers (finally decided on using Steel) and the browsers (while better at some things) never preformed as well as I'm used to.

I noticed you didn't have anything to say about the keyboard.  What are your thoughts on it?  I've used the stock keyboard and BetterKeyboard and neither worked terribly well.

Also what are your thoughts on battery?  I had it for around 4 days before I started installing any apps on it and the battery NEVER lasted more than half a day and that was without much usage at all (maybe 30ish texts and 20 min worth of talk time, no net usage due to the browser).

It's not that I just love the iphone,  I've just been unable to find something that's better.  I HATE AT&T, and I do mean hate.  But as long as they have the phone I need they're who I'll be stuck using.  I use mine to do lots of system administration when I'm on the road so a touch screen is a must (so no blackberry) and I'd hoped that the hero could cut it for me.  It can't

No Flames here, either. I did feel that there were some pretty nasty comments in this thread that needed to be addressed, though. A lot of opinions being thrown around as facts. We can all agree that one person's user experience will differ far from another's.

Bravo my man. If you know anyone that still has a Hero (and you're not persuading them to get rid of it lol wink) then make sure they're not using one.

You know, the only lag i ever really experience with the phone is due to the keyboard. I text/email/im pretty fast and sometimes it will pause but it always catches up. seems the GUI stalls for a second but if i keep going it still registers everything i type. I've heard that turning off the haptic feedback would GREATLY reduce any keyboard lag but i like it so i've never bothered devil

Now, the battery life was a REAL concern with me when i got the phone. As most ppl I went nuts on it for the first couple days and was lucky to get 8 hours out of it. This is an area where we should probably make a sticky on the forums for users. I adjusted some settings, let the battery break in, and now (and this is not boasting) I can get almost 2 days out of my phone. This happens often actually, because I sometimes forget to put in on the charger at nite lol. I'm the average gtalker, email checking (exchange/gmail), web browsing smartphone addict that most of us are and it took some time but my battery life is acceptable now.

Me too, they burned me several years ago, and I wouldn't use their service if i was reduced to native american smoke signals as my only other means of communication. what's worse is instead of upgrading their network to handle all the bandwidth hungry iphones they've sold i feel like they're padding their pockets instead.

Oh, and i'm pretty miffed with apple right now too. I have a few MP3s on my hero, and for giggles I plugged it up to my car stereo with the headphone jack and was shocked to discover that, side by side, it has better audio quality than my freaking new ipod. /facepalm

Hero's too bulky to go running with though, the ipod still serves me well for that.

We are not bashing android or hero for bashing sake. We are/were real iphone users as well as Hero users, so we are not guessing or speculating, it's real world experience. Most people seem happy with the hero, if only to be able to customize their phone, and thats great. Coming from some of the other platforms, symbian, winmo, palm, I can see why.

I spoke with HTC corp office not too long ago, and theynsaid the hero has 2 sides, one side where a lot of people are happy, and the other, smaller part where they are having major problems, like are described here. They are trying to find out why that is. If I could multitask, i would be much happier, thats what is most important to me, not changing themes and wallpapers. I could multitask very well with the iphone, not so with my hero.

Even tho apple is locked down OS it made for a great user experience, for everyone, because of the os and hardware standards apple has. A multitasking OS should not have been on a hardware device that cannot handle it, ie the Hero.

How people use their phones without my descirbed problems makes me envious , i wish i knew the secret. I tried with and without task killers, no difference. I did notice too much crap running in the background, taking up valuable memeory i needed for other tasks, the android os is not releasing enough memeory fast enough to multitask on the hero. I often had less than 20% memory because crap i never used was running, like footprints, facebook, etc etc. killing them was a temp solution as they would pop back up running, again for no reason anyway. i gave up. No one has answers yet, but i am looking.

I cannot go back to iphone, my company pays my cell south service , which is nice, so it is too hard to justify the costs to keep a seperate phone. I did try the phone in the store, but too many things are not found out untill you have had it for awhile. I could not truely test multitasking without having the apps i needed to use it in a real world sense. Ie large pdf files  like i use and co pilot navigation and music files streaming on bluetooth. kind of hard to recreate that in store.

Black berry is atrocious for what i needed to do, large pdf files and web browseing. besides i hate hard keyboards. Finding out that the carriers decide if and when i can upgrade does not sit well with me either. I cannot even get them to commit to any long term support to keep upgrading. Htc has re;eased the software 2.1 for the hero, Cell south is testing it now. The next OS will be released this summer, how long, if they will, before cell south upgrades to that one?

The only problems i hear with iphone is ATT, the phone and software otherwise are wonderful. They provide an end to end seamless experience for music, video, web browsing, syncing and phone usage. Also you get excellent personal teech support on the hardware, software and the apps.  I get none of this from cellular south, google or HTC. Try calling google about the android os for anything, they hired people to answer the phones to tell you that they do not provide phone support. WTF????? R U Serious?   cell south is clueless for support unless you need someone to teach you how to post to face book email someone or text. Anything elese is above their head.

I was accused of tethering  last week because i asked about a connection problem with remote desktop from my hero. They wanted to flag my account, i had to explain it, to all the employees in the store at the time so they would understand how it is possible, and legal to remote back to ones home pc desktop to access it.  Hello.....anyone home?

I am glad people are happy with the hero and android. Remember  a lot of people were happy with Beta max vcr platform as well as HDdvd platform, and well, you know what happened there.

Anyway, these rants are more for those comeing from the iphone, really, because it is a let down for us anyway, for others it is a step up, which is great.

BTW, anyone know when or if we will get flash? 10.1 ? When i bought my phone i was told yes, it does flash all day long, no problem. i did not know it was only up to flash 9, which was already outdated when i got my phone 3 months ago. No fancast for me with this thing, even the youtube app does not work on my phone, others it does.

Well put, gillthan.

I'm a mac fanatic, have been for over 10 years.  Apple hardware and software are unmatched, IMO.  iTunes integration is unmatched.  I've wanted an iPhone for years, however, I'm not willing to deal with bad service, dropped calls, or a bill that's twice the price.  The Hero is a fantastic phone.  It has met nearly every need that I've had.  True, it's performance is not quite as good as an iPhone, but to call it terrible, awful, etc.is ridiculous.

You guys have been brainswashed by apple. AAAAHHH!!! Seriuosly though to each his own.  At least you dont have steve jobs telling you what you need anymore.  Well if you owned an Iphone i guess that was something you enjoyed. :)  On an entirely different note, bbrosen did you say cell south tried to flag you for tethering?  My previous experience with cellsouth is that tethering was not supported but there was nothing stopping me from using it.  I guess they must have changed some policies or something.  It still gives me a kick though to hook up my old moto razr and the tethering still works on it.  Plus it never had a data account. :)
