Phone Insurance is a waste of money? What do you think?
So, a buddy of mine had his Hero for 6 days, and then his wife dropped it on cement. Thank GOD he had phone insurance to cover damage, right? Wrong. He walked in they said it costs $150 to file a Phone Insurance claim. I am pretty sure the Hero ITSELF costs less than that. So, are we wasting $5.99 a month? Or do you feel it's better than nothing? Just wondering. (I canceled mine right after I heard this non-sense)
(I wanted to put this in the General forum, but I guess you have to be an Admin to post there haha. There should be a General forum for general discuss of Cellular South, and then a Site News/Announcements forum for Admin post only)
Cellular South calls that $150 the deductible. When you get a new phone and get insurance, they will straight up tell you how much the deductible is going to be. It's not like they're trying to hide it. The deductible is different for each phone too. It was $100 when I had insurance on my Diamond.
The Hero without a contract is like over $400, right? So, the phone insurance is like car insurance or health insurance... You don't want to use it, but you have it just in case (i.e. your 2 month old phone takes a swim or leaps out a window). Without insurance you're stuck buying a $400+ phone. Even with the $150 deductible, it still seems like a good idea to have insurance for at least the first few months.
The only bad thing is, well the last time I used insurance, is that you get a refurb phone. I went through this with the Razr 2. Four months after getting the refurb phone it quit, had to do another insurance claim and was told I couldn't do another claim if this phone messed up since I was only allowed two claims per year or so I was told. Deductible for the phone was $150 each time which, I agree, is much better than paying full price for a phone, I think it's the process I hated the most. Now if we had total equipment replacement like some other carriers I wouldn't complain at all but even that has a price.
