Downloading Podcasts
I am a graduate student and have lectures that are recorded using an itunes podcast system. I can convert these podcasts to an audio form that an iphone or an ipod can use. Is there I way that I can put these onto the Hero? I have tried to put them in the mp3 folder, but when I try to open the folder on the Hero, it says that there are no mp3s there to play.
Hmm. You put them in the MP3 file on your SD Card? Have you tried opening your Music app and seeing if they are there? Or try downloading Astro File Manager from the market and going into that folder and seeing if they are there.
I downloaded the Astro file manager and copied 2 files into the mp3 folder (one was a the podcast that had been converted to Quicktime; the other file was the podcast that itunes had converted into a form that would play on an iphone or ipod). After unmounting the USB stuff, I found the files but could not open them. A message popped up that read "file type mov not found" and "file type m4v not found."
I tried to upload the file so you could see what I was trying to do but there is a 5MB limit on uploaded files on here.
Our phones do not support .mov or .m4v You need to convert these to .mp3
Okay first things first, download DoubleTwist.(doubletwist.com) Its iTunes like. It doesn't work as well but it will convert any media file to the proper format for Android(or any device). It is a great program and they're always making updates. it will also auto-start when you plug in(and mount) your Hero if you want it to.
For the files that you already have, if there are alot you can import them in to DT , or just copy the podcast url. and subscribe in DT and re download. I don't know of a good way to move all of your podcasts to DT, if you're already subscribed to alot of Podcasts in iTunes like I am, then just make a smart playlist(in iTunes) to gather only the unplayed podcasts, Name it DTPodcasts or something. DT will automtically recognize your iTunes playlists. Here's what I do 1.Open iTunes and let the podcasts download, then 2. Open DT and Drag and drop that playlist to my Android.
There are loads of other options for this prob(not saying better) you could also see if your University or whatever, has other Feeds for no apple devices. See if they have .mp3 or mp4 file formats(these will work on your hero.) The mov and m4v are Apple's proprietary file formats.
Ask if you have any questions, in case I was unclear :) That happens sometimes.
