Unknown tone on Blackberry Pearl

I have read where this has happened to other people on other carriers but no solution. My dad has the Pearl and every 6 hrs his phone will vibrate 3 times and then start making a tone 3 times. There is no message or anything nothing in the calendar or anything like that. Any ideas on a fix. I upgraded the OS to the lastest but it still does it.
