Since the Milestone is an exact copy of the Verizon Droid -- is it possible to buy a Verizon Droid off of eBay (for instance) and re-flash the ROM/Radio to work on CellSouth?

Cellular South will not activate any phone unless it was purchased from them. I've made several attemps at various stores and I was denied each and every time

Hey, I can confirm the bootloader is unlocked. I have a set of instructions on my site on how to flash roms and it kind of sort of reviews a couple. I recommend the Sapphire ROM. It runs great. It's also built from source which means, you didn't just take a leaked image and customize (you can do that with your own image easily). It means the developer(s) went and compiled it from source which means there system is very fully integrated (and possibly slimmed as well). The only thing they may give you that doesn't come from source are the proprietary drivers &/| google apps. You want me to review something or want me to do something specific with my droid to tell you if it is ok? I am currently running Sapphire with smoked glass theme and the cvcps kernel at 1.2GHZ with no problems what so ever. I am going to be trying plenty of roms, themes, and kernels in the next few months and will review each. Let me know what you all would like to see reviewed, and it may just make it in there.
I did one the other night in a matter of minutes, did the file I sent load to your sd card?
My phone keeps jumping from 3g to 1x. Changing the ROM shouldn't have anything to do with it right?

shouldn't, unless you changed the radio, then it might have something to do with it. but just flashing a new ROM shouldn't make any difference at all. i have been running a custom ROM for months and have had no problems. it is more than likely just a service issue in your area.
