Revert to Android 1.5 ?

I recently updated to Android 2.1 and, aside from the navigation, am hating it.

My phone lags badly. It sometimes takes 45 seconds or more to actually begin dialing after trying to place a call. Other time, I'll click on one contact to dial, and it'll call another.

Add to that the fact that Sense is rebooting itself at least twice a day, and I basically have an expensive paperweight.

I did not have these problems before the 2.1 upgrade, so I'm wondering if it's possible to revert to 1.5. Does anyone know? And if so, what is the process?

I'm not sure about reverting to 1.5... have you considered rooting and then using one of the Cellular South based ROMs?
Check out this thread on XDA forums:

How to Root Non-Sprint (Cellular South, Bluegrass Cellular, etc.) CDMA Hero

Ask questions if there's something you don't understand. I rooted mine, and using one of the Cellular South based ROMs completely got rid of the dialer lag I was having, and the phone ran much smoother and faster.

i don't think that you can go back to 1.5 but this is the next best thing i promise. as jbreakfield stated you should get a new ROM for your phone. it is kinda scary at first and i am sure that you will need a towel to wipe the constant flow of sweat running from your forehead, but its well worth it.

the only thing that will "brick" (render it as useful as a brick) your phone is a bad Radio update. that being said, you really have no need to update your radio as you have cell south's latest radio version anyhow.

First root your phone. best way is Universal Androot. Click HERE to download and copy to phone on your own. OR use this QR code to download directly to phone.

you may also need ROM Manager (free version is fine). you can get this from the Android Market on your phone. this will also install the ClockworkMod custom recovery. (some people use Amon but i use clockworkmods recovery no reason in particular other than that is what i found first.)

then go HERE and read about the DangerRom2.1 for Cellular South. it is pretty much a stock android 2.1 but slimmed down and overclocked for better performance.

before you flash a new rom always always always make a backup. this can be done using nandroid from the clockworkmod recovery. (if you are not sure how to get to recovery mode turn your hero off and press home and power at the same time. hold them until you get a black screen with green text. use the trackball to scroll and select.)

i hope this helps, if there is anything that i can help you with message me on XDA same user name

Thanks, guys. I took your advice and took the plunge. I'm now using DangerRom 2.1, and it has alleviated most of my issues with the Hero.

I appreciate the advice and guiding me to the info I needed.

Hi, I am new to this but with the problem that I have had with cellular south and there phone I need to speak out. I have the HTC 6250 and like everyone else that did the upgrade, I had nothing but trouble. I finally had them change the phone to one of the old 6250 but still having problem. I was told that HTC noticed that these phone have alot of problems with them, but wont do anything about fixing the problem. My advise to anyone with these phone DON'T upgrade
