Number change and Mobile Network not working.

I changed my phone number, but now the interent is not working on my phone. Dialed *228 and then took the battery out. Talked to tech support and they told me to bring the device in. Any ideas before I make the trip?
You may have to file a report with tech support. Same thing happened to me when I switched phones. They will tell you it would take 24-48 hours for them to fix it but I keep calling and stayed on them about it. What's a phone nowadays without the internet?
