AOSP MOD 20110221 is slick!

Everything seems to be fixed in this mod.
AOSP posted another on 0222 but this one is too good to miss.
man... I'm having a hard time keeping up with all this stuff between the CS forums, CyanogenMod forums, and xda forums... my head is spinning.
can you paint me a picture of what is going on here at the 30,000 ft level? I mean.. this my understanding.
There are basically two main mod paths.. AOSP gingerbread (not rated stable yet right?) and Cyanogenmod which I think 6.1.0 was the last stable version for the CDMA hero right?
currently I'm running CM 6.1.0 stable on HERO CDMA on cellularsouth. I used the method with an uncapped kernel and a battery tweak. I have gapps installed as well to use market etc. My phone runs pretty fast and stable right now.. so the only thing that would make me want to switch is if the AOSP gingerbread was very stable and significantly faster performance than CM 6.1.0.
Any details / info / enlightenment is appreciated.

I rooted and went to AOSP Froyo when my stock phone stopped ringing for incoming calls.
Eventually couldn't stand it and tried the GB offerings of 2 10, but had gps issues. That is working now and I'm happy with this.
I did find that the Places app doesn't work. May rely on HTC Sense?
Aosp Gingerbread 2.3.3 is running stable, and has been for a while. Currently starting to remove CM out of it to produce a vanilla version. Check it out.
I've been running this rom from the beninning and it is the fastest by far. IMPO
It just keeps getting better! On [ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.3 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [03/24/2011] now.
ok... I have two CS Hero phones. A while back I used a method point out on XDA from here somewhere to root them and install Cyanogenmod 6.1.0.
The method I used required a download of an apk file ( I think it was called heroroot010) to the SD card. When installed and run it basically allowed me to root the phones. I'm pretty sure I used the same source apk for both phones. For some reason I ended up with two different recovery programs on the phones. Mine is running ClockworkMod, and it appears that my wife's is running Darchstar's Godspeed recovery or something like that.
I can't figure out how I ended up with Godspeed on hers, but I really want to put the latest clockworkmod recovery on her phone too so I can update her to the aospCMod 2.3.3 / CM7 gingerbread. I have successfully updated my phone to aospCmod. I really like it.
The only difference between our phones is that she has a 2GB SD card, and I have an 8GB SD card. Do you think that perhaps the size of the SD card forced the different recovery to be used in the root process?
Can anyone tell me the easiest way to switch the recovery on her phone from Godspeed to ClockworkMod? Both phones have ROM manager installed and both are rooted. Hers runs CM6.1.0 ROM and mine is running aospCMod
Thanks,
smittyboy
by the way, I'm thinking about putting a larger SD card in her phone too ... maybe an 8GB card like I have.
ok.....

The first option when I open ROM Manager is to "Flash Clockworkmod Recovery". Have you tried that?
Scroll down to the bottom of your page and there's options for more recoveries... RA Recovery or all older ClockworkMod Recoveries.
Seems to me this is all you need to do, but things often aren't as simple as they first appear. Good luck.
well.. I tried to flash clockworkmod from the first option inside ROM Manager.. (I think....) but I'll try it again. I'll also try the alternate ROMs at the bottom, like you mentioned.
I think before I do that, I'm going to copy her entire SD card contents from the existing card over to a larger one. (that won't screw anything up will it)?
Thanks,

Won't hurt a thing. I've got copies of my SD card on a couple of different drives "just in case". Probably need to be sure the new card is formatted.
Hope your flash works out.
Have you had any problems with Pandora on the aospCmod? Mine seems to crap out after about 15 minutes of playing.. it gets choppy and the phone gets unresponsive and locks up... I had to pull the battery a couple times... now after a reinstall of Pandora.. it still does it .. but seems to at least give me the option to force close it.
>?
I've not tried it but seems like there have been a few posts in the XDA thread about it.
Do you have ROM manager from the market? There's an option within it to "fix permissions" and that often helps with F/C problems.
I found another post about it.. you go into CM settings / performance / and under govenors you can change it to on demand and that way it doesn't throttle down the CPU if something like Pandora is running in the background while the rest of the phone is asleep basically .. I guess is the concept there... but either way.. it worked... pandora is working good now.
Glad it worked for you. I sent you a pm yesterday about it too...
Thanks.. I saw your PM.. but had already found the fix by then.. but thanks again.
By the way... I got my wife's phone updated finally. I swapped her 2GB card for an 8GB card... and then was able to just use flash recovery from inside ROM Manager to get her from godspeed over to clockworkmod recovery. Then updated it to 3.0.0.5 so I could follow the steps in the wiki for aospCmod. Then I moved her from CM 6.1.0 (2.2.1) to aospCmod (2.3.3). She is enjoying it so far.
Can't believe I'm running 2.3.3. on two hero's .. I never figured I would see anything higher than 2.1 on them.. with sluggish SENSE interface and a phone that would take what seemed like 5 minutes to make a phone call. Now with aospCmod 2.3.3 and launcher pro interface.. these phones are like brand new devices.. and I can see us riding out another year on them.
of course this is all thanks to the community here and the xda forum community.
Thanks to all. :)
