Change the Carrier Name, rooted phones only...
Found this app over on XDA, and it works on our Hero. A simple way to change the carrier name from Sprint back to Cellular South, or whatever you want to input, on the lock screen and notification screens. The app doesn't take much space and you'll need it again if you flash another ROM later.

works pretty good.
I used it to put my name on the screen.
Question... What about Radio and PRL ? Do you know anything about this? I just took my phone out of south Mississippi for the first time since installing the aospCmod and I lost data when I got into Atlanta and now in Virginia. It seems I could turn on "international data roaming" and "national data roaming" and can get data that way, but I turned it back off because I'm worried about getting hit with some kind of data roaming charges.
Anyone know anything about this?
I tried to look in XDA forums.. but it was just a mess over there.. too much talk about PRLs and stuff .. I got lost.
Radio isn't changed with the ROM change.
If you're on an unlimited national package don't worry about roaming charges. I had problems in some areas when on my stock phone.
" *228 " will update your profile. If there has been a radio change I believe it will update it. I know that it will update your PRL (preferred roaming list). Mine just went from 1004 to 1005.
The ROM update has nothing to do with your data reception best I can tell.
See "menu" - "settings" - "about phone" - "status" for your PRL version. If it's not up to date, that may be causing your problems with data.
thanks.. I'll try the *228 when I get back home.. from what I understand you need to be in the local area to use that feature to update your phone. Right now I'm still on PRL 1004. So are you sure that enabling national and international data won't force extra charges on me? I am on the unlimited everything plan... data / text / and voice.
Thanks,
smittyboy
International data might be a problem if you were somewhere outside the country, but I believe the plan will cover you within the USA. If you really question it call Cellular South or text them. Won't cost you a cent. Being rooted with an upgraded ROM has no bearing on your received signal.
Thanks for that little app, I am now on the "Hammer Time" network.
I'm using data right now for this.
thanks glenn

Thanks for the info on the app! One question. Does it also change it from Sprint in the market app?
i think there is a newer version of the market app out there that will fix that... if you get the latest one along with the latest aospcmod rom. I think
I'm not sure about changes in the market app but would think so. The last few roms that I've loaded (AOSP) the market displayed "my apps" as an option and didn't reflect "Sprint".
