After some research I finally got my Galaxy running 2.3.5 rooted. Superoneclick does not work..

Used Odin to flash JT1134 CWM (Cwm-recovery-ALL.tar)
put phone in download mode place tar file in pda, click start
reboot phone
now place the attached file (flashable_Root_Package) on root of SD card
reboot into recovery
flash the (flashable_Root_Package)

Reboot phone and you should be rooted.

I was running 2.2 rooted and when i upgraded to 2.3.5 it took root away but It left SU.APK installed on my phone. not sure if the flashable_Root_Package includes the su.apk so i  you reboot and do not have the SU.APK, download it from the market.

Attachment: Odin3 v1.3(1).zip (194.0KB)

Hey man we used this and it worked great. But we had to reboot the phone it now it pulls up the android system recovery screen with a bunch of orange text saying E:failed to open/res/recovery.fstab... etc..

I tried reflashing the .tar file but it goes straight to the same android recovery screen and wont let me do anything. You have any idea what might have happen and how i can get it to boot back up?

I did a backup of the rom but i cant get back into the recovery to restore it.

Ok i figured it out. We had deleted amazon mp3 app on titanium backup and it did a reboot and thats where the problem started. I removed the sd card and i was able to navigate again. So i did a wipe data/factory reset just in case and i was able to get out the android recovery screen and boot the phone back up normally. Now to find a custom rom...

is this reversible? I mean, can I flash back to a stock rom if I need to warranty my phone?

ok here is a better idea. go to this link and download the zip file.

1. follow the instructions in the text file, HOWEVER,
2. if you have already done the kies mini update, skip that part and simply go in the phone and change the usb settings to use kies when plugged in.
3. reboot phone holding volume down, home, and power. this will allow the phone to go into download mode.
4. After the phone reboots, shut it down and hold the volume down and power button to boot into recovery mode.
5. navigate to the flashable_root_package (in recovery volume= up and down, power= select, and menu = back) select install zip from sdcard, then select "choose zip from sdcard", scroll down until you find "flashable_root_package.zip. Select this file and let it run.
6. Reboot the phone and you are all done!

Make sure the battery is out before you plug in the usb cord.

Well dude i thought i found a decent Rom (CM7.1) but my buddy reports his messages aren't being received by anyone or they get received blank. Is the Galaxy S Showcase really a Showcase or is it the Fascinate? We flashed the Showcase cm7 rom and everything worked. smooth, and fast but the SMS problem. Should we flash the Fascinate cm7 version???? Also his SD card had a corrupt file so it killed all of his stock backups when we reformatted it. So no turning back now unless we find someone to lend a stock recovery. Anyway His radio/baseband is EI20 and have been reading that it needs EH09 for this to correct the problem. I'm trying to confirm this will work on C Spire but havent found anything yet. He is leaving back for school soon and i want to get this fix before he leaves out.

You need to replace CM7 with TSM Resurrection for the Showcase, then gut it with titanium backup including removing TW launcher and replacing with an aftermatket launcher. Soap lack functionality for this phone and Mez. Fascinate Rome have the possibility of causing more issues unless you have apns and other configuration files replaced. Goto rootzwiki.com forums and get it in the Mez /Showcase subforum.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking... do you want to get it back to stock, or do you want to keep CM7?
You should be able to do either, or get it to a ROM like Awesome Sauce, and dandan suggests (it is a great ROM, btw)... I don't have much time right now, but go to Rootzwiki and read up; all your questions should be answered there. You DO NOT want to put a Fascinate ROM on a CS phone... there are ways to make them work, but they won't work out of the box.

When you say you "tried this", which "this" are you talking about? Can you give the steps you used to get where you are? If you have voodoo recovery, you're not messed up or anything, you probably just need to go thru a few more steps.

i put the (netchip-cwm-update2.tar" file.) in the pda part. the device powered down but never rebooted. i removed the battery after about 30 minutes and went to the recovery mode and tried to do step 7 i think thats my problem i'm missing this file (Step 7) In CWM recovery just flash the zip file “su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip” from the SDCard. and since i'm kind of new at this i'm stuck
